Whether used for clothes linens towels or storage these tiny rooms are commonly affected by moisture and or a musty odor. It can be white specks or streaks left on dark clothes or blue or green residue left on light colored clothes. One of the most commonly asked laundry questions is about visible residue left on clothes that have been freshly washed. A few days after cleaning the clothes and hanging them in the closet they are splotchy with this white substance.

I know everyone hates ironing but if you use a steamer or a burst of steam from your iron on the white spots on the clothes the spots do disappear. Like everyone else the white spots were driving me crazy. It can also appear in different consistencies from velvet to slimy depending on how deeply the colony resides within its affected household surface. If you notice mold growing in your closet the problem could be caused by several factors.

Older homes often have problem closets. We also painted the closet with an anti fungal primer but the problem still persists. Mold can appear in many colors from white to black with numerous shades in between. I also going to try running white vinegar through my washing machine a couple of times to see if that helps.

We have already tried to sterilize by using anti fungal cleaner on the closet walls and the hangers.
