I just had some beautiful white calacatta marble mosaic installed in my bathroom and picked a light gray grout. The contractor swears that there is no way that the grout stained the stone and that the grout is just making the stone look darker. Near the end i could not find any white thinset anywhere of the same brand that i was using so i bought the dark gray one and finished the last 10 15 tiles using the dark one. Now the marble looks gray yellow and dingy.

If it does turn white again and you seal it you are still going to have water penetrate the marble along all the edges through the grout. I am about to tile my final room. Also after installation continue to seal your stone at least one time a year to prevent future staining. Suitable substrates include interior and exterior floors countertops and walls.

Do not use any grey mud or thinset that can penetrate through to the light stone. Versabond cures quickly and adheres to most surfaces. What kind of marble is this. White is usually used for walls and counters and gray for floors.

Josh that is how long it takes the thinset to fully cure. Use a non sanded grout to protect both the marble and the grout from discoloring too much. In conclusion ensure if you re going to install white marble or light stone use a white colored thinset and portland cement or waterproof system. Slate tile is typically less porous than travertine and has a dark colored body.

You can also choose the color based on location. Gray thinset eliminates this risk.
